Good luck when it breaks on you and there's no way to fix it on your own.
Macs are pretty and all, but I've never seen a legit reason as to why designers say they're superior to PC's; other than, of course, "they're the standard".
If a mac desktop broke on me, I can fix it. It's just a desktop.
If a macbook broke on me, that's a different story. If any compact laptop from any manufacturer breaks down, fixing it yourself is not an option.
Mac OS X is a gorgeous, functional and really easy-to-use front-end to a 64-bit BSD Unix operating system with performance optimizations for the selected hardware in Mac computers. Really, this is what a Unix computer is meant to be like.
Agree. I intend to buy an iMac next week, when Leopard is released, and I can't wait! If you ever have run a Mac you don't want to go back to the pc, with its unstable, ugly, buggy, wide-open Os. Apple is one of few companies, who have made an Os and the hardware quite perfect.
Yeah, that's true - but Apple is also known for their shoddy products. So in the span of my 1 PC you can easily have several Macs under your belt. And no, that doesn't reign true for all companies either.

I'm on computer engineering too, this one is just what i was looking for!! i can compile gcc and code opengl with xcode and i can work in the office doing adobe flash websites x)! hell yeah, i love my mac.
I will agree with you in principle that the closed hardware of Apple is a problem. The integration they put into the hardware and the system does impress quite a bit. But it is really the interface, the OS and the tools that I'm really a fan of.
The sleek lines and stark white laptop appeals to a completely different (read: fashion concious) part of me. But please, don't think that that's the basis for my choice of system.
yes. agreed 100%. I dont see why everyone trashes macs. In my life Ive had atleast 10 windows based computers. I bought a mac 3 years ago, and I havent even had to replace it. Macs barely crash, and if they do its really easy to recover from.
I think people trash the platform because they still see it as a kid's computer. As for replacing it, I know so many people with some of the earliest PPC macs from the beginnings of OS X. And they still use them. With some of the newest operating systems. And what will Vista run on...? That's right, only the newest hardware.
